Bajaj Freedom is the world’s first CNG motorcycle and is aiming to disrupt the 125cc commuter’s segment. Being a bi-fuel motorcycle, the Indian two-wheeler company has priced it aggressively, equipped it with features and is fuel efficient. Here’s why the Bajaj Freedom is a boon for commuters. The Freedom 125 is available in three variants, NG04 Disc LED at Rs 1.10 lakh, NG04 Drum LED at Rs 1.05 lakh and NG04 Drum at Rs 95 000, all ex-showroom Delhi prices.
The Freedom is one of a kind CNG powered motorcycle. With the CNG, the motorcycle’s running cost will be lower than its petrol counterparts, which will be easy on the pocket. Bajaj has designed a unique 2 kg CNG tank placed beneath the seat along with a 2-litre petrol tank placed at the traditional position. This CNG motorcycle comes with a 125cc engine.
Fuel | Petrol | CNG | Price Difference |
Price, Delhi | Rs 94.72 kmpl | Rs 76.59 per/kg | Rs 18.13 |
According to Bajaj, the Freedom CNG saves about 50 per cent on petrol costs when compared to petrol 125cc motorcycles. On CNG mode, the Freedom offers a range of more than 200 kilometres on 2 kg of CNG tank. Bajaj claims in petrol mode, the 2-litre tank will provide over 130 km of range. The Freedom offers a combined estimated range of over 330 km and 102 kilometres per kilogram of CNG. CNG combustion emits roughly 26.7 per cent less CO2 than petrol.
The Freedom CNG is powered by a 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which has an output of 9.4 bhp at 8,000 and 9.7 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Freedom 125 is around 2 to 2.5 bhp less than its petrol 125cc motorcycles.
The Freedom 125 CNG is based on a trellis frame, which is a first in this segment, for better rigidity along with front telescopic forks and mono-shock rear suspension. The front 17-inch tyre gets a 240mm disc brake while the rear 16-inch comes with either drum or 130mm disc brake based on the variant. The Freedom 125 CNG has a wheelbase of 1,340mm, a seat height of 825mm and a ground clearance of 170mm.
The Freedom 125 has all LED lighting, including the headlight and the tail light. The entry-level trim gets a halogen headlight. The Bajaj CNG motorcycle sports an LCS instrument cluster that can be paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth connectivity and sends call and SMS alerts. The console reads out a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, gear indicator and real-time and fuel economy average. To seamlessly switch from petrol to CNG fuel, there is a switch on the left handlebar.
